Friday Evening

We had a great day of work at Miss Georgia's house.  The home is really coming together very nicely.  Walt and I worked on placing the base-boards and trim throughout the house.  Trent followed the trim work with spackling and painting.  Bob installed and grouted tile, cabinet hardware, and added some finish to porch posts.  Andrea installed all of the door hardware.  Doreen and Debbie mastered the clothes rods in the closets.  Laura, aka Beans, spent some time making a special gift for the homeowner, a handmade/signed Cross.

Our homeowner joined us for dinner this evening.  Miss Georgia rode back with us after work.  It was very nice to have he join us.  Beans presented the Cross to miss Georgia after dinner.  What a sweet woman.  We are so blessed to have worked on her home this week.

Work and Progress

Well it's Friday morning.  We have all had a difficult time determining which day it is since we started on Tuesday.  We are made much progress at Georgia's house.  We were fortunate as we started work near the completed end of the house.  I am sure by the time we leave Saturday it will look very much like a home for Georgia.  I have been trying to post more photos but currently having some technical difficulty.

Work Day 2 Adventures

Today we left to go work on Miss Georgia's house around 8:15 in the morning after enjoying a nice breakfast. We continued to work on the house by painting doors, walls, and trim. Others worked on installing the kitchen counter top, putting up trim, and installing the microwave. We also were able to enjoy some more lovely cement glue fumes. The happiness is still continuing on tonight sitting around. Fortunately, the house is really coming together. Miss Georgia was so happy with our finishing touches she was singing. Around 4 we came back to the church for dinner at 5:30. Afterwards is when the real fun began. Presbyterian Project made an outing to the big city! We looked like such tourist, but it was a blast. We walked the canal, to the gardens, and even went back to the candy store! It was nice to be able to enjoy each other's company and make some memories. Thank you for all the prayers and support!

Grace

We can all use a little grace more than occasionally.  For us today, grace had a different meaning.  Miss Georgia is the woman we are working for in Oklahoma.  Her home was made unlivable by the tornado.  I had the opportunity to spend some time with her today.  She shared with me how thankful she is to have the numerous volunteers that have come to help.  She was speechless but gave me a  hug and thanked us.  Grace.

As you may have gathered, we worked at Miss Georgia's house today.  The good news, for those of you that know me, I got my Beagle fix from Dolly the tail-less Beagle near Miss Georgia's house.

We had a great work day, it feels like I have known our group for years and not days.  We are excited to return tomorrow.  Here are a few work site photos.

Work Week Begins

Today we woke up at the early hour of 6:15 am.  The power was unfortunately out in the cooking trailer so instead we enjoyed McDonald sandwiches and local donuts. Finally around 930 we headed to our job.  The group got on the wonder bus to drive a half of an hour to the job site in Cleveland County. The homeowner's name is Miss Georgia, who is in her 70s. She was so happy to see her house and the smile never left her face. It was quite a cold day, but we survived. We began work on the inside of a nearly completed house. Trent, Debbie, Laura, Doreen, and I were on paint duty. We painted the nice trim around the new windows and even got to start on the doors. Tomorrow we hope to finish them. Walt/Henry. Doug, and Bob did some carpentry work. They began installing the counter tops in the kitchen. Needless to say after smelling cement glue for a couple hours in the enclosed house, we were all a happy bunch. We ate a nice packed lunch made by hand with our supervisor Stan. Laura and I worked hard together. It was a miracle. My mom was highly impressed. Highlight of the day though was Doug showing us his special talent... balancing stuff on his nose. No one believed him, but he did it and amused us all. At 4:15 pm, we drove back to the church where we could finally take a shower. Tonight for dinner the trailer was up and running again so we had meatloaf, mash potatoes, mixed veggies, salad, rolls, and peach cobbler. It was incredibly delicious. Nothing beats a home cooked meal. Now we are sitting around chit chatting and watching Laura get her butt beat in pool by Walt/Henry. It is a relaxed kind of night. Now it's my turn to beat Laura too. Report back tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Andrea Grada

By Air

The three flyers made to OK on Monday night.  The trip started with Debbie forgetting a pillow.  Instead of going home and delaying the start of the adventure, Dianna let her have Henry's to use for the trip.  The van left GPC at 8:30 arriving in plenty of time to catch the 11:23 flight.  The first leg of the trip went well until it was time to land.  The pilot announced that we were approaching for the landing and to get prepared. As we finally did get down we all thought that was the longest landing any of us had ever had.   We found a nice cafe in Atlanta that we enjoyed a nice claiming lunch.  Little did we know how the second leg of the trip would turn out.  The flight was delayed 15 minutes.  We were speaking to other passengers and found that they we heading to DC.  Then a little while later the gate for the flight to OK was changed.  Finally 45 minutes later we were off.  The landing in OK was much faster and then the fun of meeting up with the van began.  It ended up we were on one side of the pick up and the van was on the other.  Thank goodness for Cell Phones.  We then were able to learn the adventure of riding in the van.
